But literature search reveals a dearth of studies on media reportage of SCN’s decisions and the extent to which the media accurately communicate the judgments to the public. This study evaluates the magnitude and accuracy of media reports on six selected decisions of the apex court. Social responsibility theory provided the theoretical framework. Primary data was collected from the reports of the selected newspapers while certified Supreme Court judgments of the selected cases formed the secondary data. The decisions evaluated included the Ibori's ex-convict status controversy; the legality of ex-Governor Ladoja's impeachment; the validity of 2007 electoral victory of Governor Wamakko and President Umaru Yar'Adua; the ownership tussle between Akwa Ibom and Cross River over 76 oil wells and the tenure elongation suit. The Guardian, The Punch, Daily Trust and Daily Sun newspapers were selected for the study based on ownership and national circulation. Twenty-four editions of the newspapers were selected for content analysis. A 14-item coding sheet was the instrument of data collection. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The selected newspapers were fairly accurate (57.5%) in communicating the decisions of the SCN. The Guardian newspaper had the most accurate reports (76%), while the Daily Sun had the least accurate reports (44.7%). The study found that the magnitude and degree of accuracy of the newspaper reports depended on the nature of the case facts, the political weight of the parties involved in the dispute, nature of the judgments handed down by the SCN in the cases, and the individual newspapers owing to ownership interest, location and their editorial policies. In the Nigerian music industry today, one can hardly find a single song that feature without using English, Nigerian pidgin or any of the Nigerian indigenous languages. The English language has been viewed as not having enough expressive resources that can match any of the native languages. English is seen as being too formal, complex and foreign to Nigerians and as a result of this complexity, speakers often result to the use of indigenous languages because it tends to make the speakers feel at home without much attention paid to the grammatical formations. This study seeks to find out this assertion by exploring the extent of bilingualism and biculturalisms techniques adopted by the selected Nigerian artists. Bicultural elements were portrayed in the musical videos of artists via their costumes and physical settings. Artists employ dressing techniques that merge bits of European and African cultural values. The data sampled also showed the artists’ high level of cultural consciousness and solidarity with mother tongues as indispensable tools for self-expression and self-actualization. As the world has become a global village, we are entering an era where the future of a nation will have to be based on multilingualism, a situation with serious consequences. In view of this multilingual context, it is therefore important to learn a foreign language. Based on Skinner's behaviorist theory, this study examines the reasons or factors responsible for the loss of interest and lack of motivation to learn French among university students. The study maintains that students’ interest, motivation and satisfaction must be taken into account in school activities. Using the questionnaire for 50 students which will serve as a tool for a qualitative result, we would identify this alarming challenge among students in the French department of Uniosun. This study concludes that it would therefore be necessary to let learners in foreign language departments decide for themselves whether they want to learn French instead of forcing them to learn the language. France also has an important role in promoting its language (teaching and learning) in Nigeria. This contribution is part of these works. It starts from considerations on translation and presents some characteristics of the African (sub-Saharan) literary texts before identifying, from a corpus of seven novels, some traps that the translator will face, which may be linked to the aesthetic orientations of the novelists. Most often, they find themselves in a situation of explicit or implicit translation when they are inspired, for example, by oral literature. Thus, they insert into their texts elements belonging to socio-culture and endogenous varieties of French using two techniques: transposition and transfer. Transposition is the integration, in the text, of a borrowing or a previously translated word. Transfer, on the other hand, consists of incorporating borrowings and neologisms as they are used in a specific context. It sometimes happens that, for certain words, equivalents appear in the text or in footnotes. It would be an illusion to believe that the translator's task is lightened when the author has done the work of a "lexicographer". If the interpretative theory seems appropriate for the translation of said texts, it may happen, despite the extralinguistic competence of the translator (knowledge of the social, cultural, and situational context relevant to the utterance), that the quest for the genesis of meaning requires a considerable investment and that the reexpression of the author's meaning proves difficult, if not impossible. The cooperative approach could therefore be preferred. The solution may be, for the sociolinguistic or sociocultural specialist from which culture the text to be translated originates, who is working on behalf of a translation team, to decode the terms that cannot be reexpressed in the target language, maintained as they are and explained. Language is an integral part of a people’s culture in one hand, and proverb is an essential facet of any given language. In some cases, understanding a people’s perception on issues becomes a problem because of the inability to decode the cultural background of such people. Inadequacy in the comprehension of people’s cultural context is capable of bringing misinterpretation or misrepresentation. This study, therefore, examines thirty Yoruba proverbs; translated into English and French to demonstrate how proverbs can be used in conflict resolution, give instructions or warnings and encouragement in taking well-informed actions among other things. The study aimed at educating people about the Yoruba people’s world view as regards certain issues and actions. Field Study is the methodology adopted for the research while Functionalist theory of translation serves as the theoretical framework on which the study is premised. This theory investigates the nature of translation as a communicative action which should take into account cultural context. Findings revealed that proverbs permit people to communicate, learn as well as allowing them to express feelings for their material and non-material needs. It is equally established that some proverbs have the capacity to provide solutions to societal problems. The paper concludes that understanding people’s culture is important because it explains how culture defines and shapes their actions. The application of functionalist theory to translation will help to achieve a better translation which considers cultural and linguistic properties all together. It aims at identifying the translation strategies used while translating the selected lyrics into French in order to determine the most suitable strategies for lyrics translation on the one hand and provide a new interpretation for the selected lyrics on the other hand. The theories that underpin this work are Levefere (1975)’s strategies of poetry translation and Baker (1992)’s strategies for non-equivalence at word level. A mixed method has helped the researcher identify and analyze the translation strategies used in the French version of the selected lyrics. The study reveals different proportions of translation strategies: metrical translation 42%, interpretation 38%, rhymed translation 8%, phonemic translation 8% and literal translation 4% following Levefere (1975)’ theory on the one hand. On the other hand, the study reveals following Baker (1992)’s theory, paraphrase using related words 58%, paraphrase using unrelated words 25% and omission 17%. It has been observed that metrical translation strategy is the most suitable for song translation since the translator needs to respect not only the original meter and rhythm but also the melody. This explains the high use of metrical translation strategy. The strategy of interpretation helps the translator create new forms in the target language basing on her own understandings, cultures and styles for the purpose of conveying adapted meanings from the original ones.
