الملخص: يتطرق هذا البحث لحياة أحد أجلة العلماء الشناقطة، ولآثاره العلمية ومنهجه في التقعيد الفقهي، وهو العلامة: محمد محمود بن حبيب الله الشنقيطي (ت: 1277هــ) الذي طبقت شهرته الآفاق، واستضاء بعلمه ومجهوده الفكري والإصلاحي القطر الشنقيطي برهة من الزمن، فقد كان له الدور الأبرز في ازدهار إحدى أمهات المحاظر في البلاد، وهي محظرة الكحلاء والصفراء التي فاق عطاؤها العلمي كثيرا من جامعات الدنيا، كما أنه من علماء الشناقطة الأوائل الذين اهتموا بفن التقعيد الفقهي في بلاد شنقيط، فكان هذا البحث باكورة الأعمال التي عنيت بتحليل منهجه في التقعيد الفقهي. غير أن هذه الشخصية الفذة لم تنل حظها من الدراسة والاهتمام في مختلف الجوانب، ولعل أهم تلك الجوانب التي أغفلت جانب ريادته في التأليف في فن القواعد الفقهية في بلاد شنقيط، حيث إنه من العلماء الأوائل الذين ألفوا في هذا الفن تأليفا يراعي الخصوصية المحظرية، فتلقاه شيوخ المحاظر وطلبتها بالقبول، وتلقفوه بالاستنساخ من أجل اقتنائه، وحفظه، مما أدى إلى انتشاره، وذيوع صيت صاحبه.
 This research deals with the biography of Mohamed Mahmoud Ben Habiboullah Al- Chinguiti (died in 1860) as one of the most distinguished scholars of Mauritania or Chinguit. It tackles his scientific products and his method of jurisprudence. The scholar Mohamed Mahmoud was very famous. With his remarkable knowledge, intellectuality and innovation, he enlightened Chinguit for a long period of time as pioneer leader and chief of the traditional religious school known as Mahdara: Al- Kahla and Al- Hamra. His scientific products reached many of the universities of the world and he was one of the first scholars who were interested in the art of jurisprudence in the country. However, this unique personality did not get enough attention in the academia in various aspects, and perhaps the most important of those aspects was the one of his leadership in the art of jurisprudence in the country. So, he was one of the first scholars who wrote in this field focusing on the specificity of Al-Mahdara. His books were celebrated by the scholars, which led to widening his readership throughout the world
