لا شك أنّ بقاء واستمرار أي مجتمع يتوقف على مدى تماسكه الاجتماعي وتكامل مؤسساته الاجتماعية مع بعضها الأخر وفق مجموعة من المبادئ والقيم الاجتماعية التي تعتمد بالدرجة الأساسية على تنمية ثقافة السلام.
فاستمرار المجتمع وتماسكه يحتاج إلى وجود أي شكل من أشكال الشعور والإحساس بالانتماء له والتمتع فيه بالحقوق مقابل الالتزام بأداء كافة الواجبات ولذا سعت العديد من المجتمعات لاهتمام بالثقافة السلام
والإشكالية المطروحة في هذا الصدد والتي أصبحت مثار جدل كبير بين مختلف الفعاليات الفكرية والثقافية والسياسية أن الثقافة الدينية بشكل عام تلعب دوريين أساسين فمن جهة قد تكون عاملا من عوامل إرساء القيم ومبادئ السلمية ، إذا كانت ثقافة سلمية ومن جهة أخرى قد تكون معول هدم للجانب الحضاري والإنساني للأمم إذا انحرف مسارها إلى العنف والصراع .
ومن هنا نتساءل ما مدى قدرة الدين على إرساء معالم السلم والحفظ على أمن واستقرار الأمة لرسم معالم تنمية مستدامة أساسها السلام ؟
